In my time at the Boston Globe, I have edited everything from international wire stories to hyper-local briefs. In all of the selected articles, I have either written the headline, deck, or photo caption, or found and formatted the kicker and pull quote. Similarly, in almost every one of these articles, I have had to trim for print length, requiring me to parse for the most important information, filtering out the extraneous.
